Venezuela Seeks Vietnam’s Expertise in Science and Technology

Vice President cum Minister of Science and Technology of Venezuela Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez expressed a wish for Vietnam to share its experience in areas where it has strengths, such as artificial intelligence, innovation, information technology, and digital transformation.

Strengthen Solidarity and Friendship Between Vietnam and Venezuela

At the invitation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Venezuela, a delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, led by Professor Dr. Tu Minh Phuong, Chairman of the PTIT Council, visited Venezuela from May 27 to 31. The delegation attended the inauguration ceremony of the National University of Science of Venezuela (UNC) and participated in the international conference titled “Scientific Convergence for a Shared Future.”

At the meeting with the Vietnamese delegation, Vice President Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez stated that amid blockade and sanctions, the Venezuelan government has prioritized policies that promote sustainable investment in science and technology, aiming to serve the interests of the people and safeguard national sovereignty. To effectively implement these objectives, Venezuela is committed to strengthening scientific and technological cooperation with traditional partners, including Vietnam.

Vice President Jiménez Ramírez emphasized that Venezuela wishes for Vietnam to share its experience in fields where it has clear strengths, such as AI, innovation, information technology, and digital transformation.

"Based on the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Partnership between Venezuela and Vietnam, strengthening cooperation in science and technology is considered a crucial factor that enables the two countries to complement each other on the path of development, for the happiness and prosperity of both peoples," he said.

On behalf of the delegation, Professor Dr. Tu Minh Phuong expressed sincere thanks for the solidarity and support that the people of Venezuela have extended to Vietnam during its past struggle for national liberation and reunification, and in the current process of national construction and defense.

“Vietnam identifies science and technology development as a decisive factor in the advancement of nations, a key tool in achieving sustainable development goals, and an important driver for economic growth and for addressing challenges across all areas of socio-economic life. Vietnam is ready to foster cooperation with Venezuela in the field of science and technology, aiming together toward a prosperous and developed future,” Professor Dr. Tu Minh Phuong emphasized.

In his discussion with Professor Dr. Tu Minh Phuong, Vice Rector of the Central University of Venezuela, Roberto Bertancourt stated that the establishment of the university by the Venezuelan government demonstrates its determination to make Venezuela a hub for scientific research and development in Latin America.

To concretize the areas of cooperation between the two countries, during the visit, the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology of Vietnam and the National University of Science of Venezuela signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Accordingly, the two institutions will focus on exchanging educational and training programs and projects, promoting academic exchange between lecturers and students, and organizing joint scientific workshops.

During the visit, the delegation also paid a visit and worked with the Embassy of Vietnam in Venezuela.
