The Vietnam Embassy in Canada and the Canada-Vietnam Trade Council co-hosted a webinar on December 3 to discuss trade ties under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), with future relations in the post-novel coronavirus (COVID-19) period also under discussion.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had hoped for good relations with China and visited the country in 2016 following which the two nations began trade talks. However, Canada is abandoning free trade negotiations with China amid a host of disagreements on a range of topics, Foreign Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne said in an interview on Friday.

As ASEAN Chair 2020, Vietnam lauded Canada’s support to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the fight against COVID-19 at the virtual 17th ASEAN-Canada Dialogue on August 11.
