At the reception, Chuck Searcy shared his thoughts on the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, celebrated on April 30, 2025, in Ho Chi Minh City. He expressed his deep appreciation for witnessing Vietnamese youth honoring and expressing gratitude to the generations before them who fought for peace. This, he believes, reflects their commitment to cherishing and striving to preserve peace for the future.
According to Chuck Searcy, VFP remains committed to supporting Vietnam in addressing the lingering effects of war. In particular, the organization aims to continue its efforts in bomb and mine clearance, as well as providing education on accident prevention related to unexploded ordnance. These initiatives contribute to creating a safer living environment for Vietnamese children and communities.
Recalling a quote from former US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink: "Efforts to address the legacy of war from both sides have helped build trust between the two former enemies", VUFO Vice President Dong Huy Cuong thanked VFP for its contributions to overcoming the consequences of war and promoting Vietnam-US relations.
As Vietnam and the United States approach the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations (July 11, 1995 – July 11, 2025), VUFO and the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam plan to collaborate on commemorative activities. VUFO hopes that Veterans For Peace (VFP) will take part in these events and reaffirms its commitment to supporting and accompanying VFP in its future initiatives.
