Tzu Chi Grants Over VND 2 Billion to Support Disadvantaged Students in Hai Duong

On May 10 and 11, the Hai Duong Union of Friendship Organizations, in collaboration with the Tzu Chi Foundation (Taiwan, China,) held a program to distribute aid under the initiative “Educational support for disadvantaged students in the 2024-2025 academic year.”

Accordingly, 827 students from Hai Duong City and the districts of Tu Ky, Thanh Ha, and Thanh Mien received one-time financial support, with a total value of more than VND 2 billion. The beneficiaries included 815 students at primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary levels; 10 students from Hai Duong University; and two visually impaired students who are members of the Hai Duong Provincial Association of the Blind and are currently studying at Thanh Dong University.

The level of financial support was tailored to each educational level as follows: VND 1.5 million per primary school student, VND 2.5 million per lower secondary school student, VND 3 million per upper secondary school student, and VND 14 million per university student. Notably, the two visually impaired university students received the highest amount of support at VND 22 million each.

On the afternoon of May 10, in Hai Duong City, representatives of the provincial Union of Friendship Organizations and the Tzu Chi Foundation directly distributed aid to 287 students. On the morning of May 11, the delegation continued to Tu Ky, Thanh Ha, and Thanh Mien districts to personally deliver the remaining aid to disadvantaged students in those areas.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, and President of the Hai Duong Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Duc Tuan commended the Tzu Chi Foundation's assistance. He emphasized that the support provided valuable resources and encouragement, helping students remain steadfast in their academic pursuits. This aid would serve as a source of motivation for the students to overcome adversity and continue their educational and personal development.

He affirmed that the Hai Duong Union of Friendship Organizations will continue to accompany, connect, coordinate, and advocate for the charitable, humanitarian, and educational activities of the Tzu Chi Foundation and other international non-governmental organizations in Hai Duong in a transparent, effective, and sustainable manner.

The Tzu Chi Foundation has operated as a non-governmental organization in Vietnam since 2015, implementing numerous humanitarian programs in fields such as healthcare, elderly care, support for disadvantaged children, and emergency relief. In addition to Hai Duong, Tzu Chi has also carried out charitable activities in various provinces, including Tien Giang and Ben Tre, assisting thousands of people in difficult circumstances.
